5 Benefits Of Using Polycarbonate Fabrication For Your Next Project

Polycarbonate fabrication is the process whereby polycarbonate is used to create a product. Polycarbonate, for the most part, is a tough, durable kind of plastic. It is preferential to many other materials for the following benefits associated with it.

1. It Is Quite Malleable 

Whether you pour its liquid form into molds, or you laser-cut its hardened form, polycarbonate is quite malleable. If you cut something flat, like a clear skateboard, and you want to turn up the edges a little, the factory only has to apply a little heat before the material softens enough to bend. Extended exposure to temperatures just below the melting point of polycarbonate and you can bend and form this material like taffy.

2. It Is Quite Mixable

You can color it, glitter it up, and even add additives to make it stronger. Whatever you need and want from your polycarbonate, the polycarbonate manufacturers can do it. Just file your customization request when you place your order. You can also supply your own additives to the manufacturer and request that these additives be thrown into the melted polycarbonate. As long as they will not create a negative chemical reaction, the customization is allowed.

3. It Is Nearly Diamond-Tough

In fact, some manufacturers boast that their "recipe" for polycarbonate creates bulletproof items. You can test those claims in the company lab, but the fact remains that polycarbonate is quite tough and durable. A diamond itself is technically a polycarbonate, but its makeup and atoms are slightly different than this tough plastic. That should give you some idea of the toughness of this universal material.

4. Any Time Acrylic Glass Is Called for, You Can Substitute Polycarbonate Instead

In many cases, clear acrylic "glass" is a go-to product because it allows visibility and because it is cheap. However, polycarbonate can be used instead. It is more expensive than clear acrylic "glass," but given the previously-mentioned benefits, consumers often find polycarbonate more favorable. In any instance where the "glass" could be hit hard, or stood on, or leaned against, polycarbonate will not crack, bow, or bend.
